The Dakota Institute is a leader in economic analysis in South Dakota and the Northern Plains region. We work with clients and stakeholders to provide valuable analysis and consultation regarding economic trends that impact growth and development. As a member of our team the analyst will help our clients and stakeholders achieve their goals by producing high-quality research and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, the ability to conduct self-directed analysis and interact and communicate with clients.
Objectives for this position
- Perform and communicate analyses of economic data to identify meaningful trends and opportunities relevant to policy makers, business leaders, and clients.
- Work with leadership to design and implement workflows and processes for collecting, analyzing, and reporting key economic data.
- Work with leadership to design, implement, and maintain internal data storage and sharing systems.
- Work with leadership to develop and maintain public data dashboards to report economic conditions in the state and region.
- Produce analytic reports to support decision making efforts of clients and organizational stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Interpret data using analytics, research methodologies, and statistical techniques.
- Develop and implement data analysis strategies for public and private data.
- Prepare reports summarizing analytic results including data visualizations for clients and other stakeholders.
- Collect and update data on a regular basis.
- Review internal processes with leadership to recommend improvements and new opportunities for the organization.
Required skills and qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher), preferably in economics, computer science, mathematics, or business.
- Advanced analytical skills with experience collecting, organizing, and disseminating data and information accurately.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Experience with report writing.
- Experience with collecting, cleaning, and analyzing complex data using appropriate software tools.
Preferred skills and qualifications
- Three or more years’ experience synthesizing complex information and producing written reports.
- Three or more years’ experience in data wrangling and analysis.
- Proficiency with statistical and data analysis tools such as R (preferred), Python, Stata, IMPLAN, or REMI.
- Experience developing data visualizations using software such as R, Python, Tableau, or Power BI.
Job Type & Schedule
- Full-time
- Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm with evenings and weekends occasionally. 80 hours every two weeks.
Pay & Benefits
- $60,000 to $80,000 based on qualifications.
